Allan joined 1st Leichhardt in 1936 becoming a Cub and later Sea Scout. Allan held various roles as Assistant Scout Leader from 1946 to 1949, Senior Scout Leader, 1949 to 1953 and Scout Leader, 1953 to 1964. He was appointed as the District Scout Leader, Leichhardt District, 1964 to 1968. Allan moved to Padstow to live in 1951 when he eventually transferred to District Scout Leader, Padstow District. He changed to Group Leader 2nd Padstow 1972 to 1974. In 1974 Allan was appointed as an adviser attached to Central West Metropolitan Area, where he remained until 2016. Allan had a great passion for Camp Coutts and was instrumental in preserving 1st Leichhardt Scouts history, through his careful records and his book, History of Camp Coutts.
