I liked everything about the Pinewood Derby car activity we did last term. Leading up to it, I worked with my Dad to shape the car body with a saw and sandpaper. Then we added wheels and axles. My Mum helped me spray paint the car black on the top and white on the bottom. Then, we turned it over again and spray painted the top with white from further away to make it speckled.
On the night, all the kids were so excited to see each other’s cars. There were lots of categories, like ‘best craftsmanship’, ‘funniest car’, ‘most colourful’ and ‘most futuristic’. Then all the cars ran at least 2 races to see whose car was the fastest.
There was so much excitement. Lots of parents came to watch the final races. I hope we get to do Pinewood Derby again.

I’m a cub leader at the Dulwich Hill Group and the idea of a Pinewood Derby sounds like heaps of fun. Did you buy official Pinewood Derby kits?
