Making Water Filters

The idea to make water filters came from a book I have called ‘Go Wild!’. I showed it to Riki at Camps Coutts and she really liked it.

It was a little bit stressful to lead the activity because people were asking me lots of questions.

It was really fun to find the materials in the park to use in the filter. It was dark and spooky. We found leaves, sand, grass and bark to use in our filters. I also had charcoal, sand and some pieces of cloth to put at the bottom of the filter.

The dirty water was muddy brown. We put the dirty water into the filters. James made the best one. His water came out really clear.

The water is still not safe to drink. You always need to boil it too after, to get the bacteria out.

I hope we can do this activity again at camp and then drink the water too!

Georgie.
